Rice Krispies update

So… Rice Krispies are interesting, it turns out. My mom has a co-worker with Celiac who has successfully eaten Rice Krispie treats after competitive bike races, even made by other people, and been fine. If you go to this Kellogg’s link, though, you’ll see that Kellogg’s mentions that it does have malt flavoring from barley, and that it doesn’t currently have any gluten-free cereal. My mom’s going to try making regular Rice Krispies treats for my sister to see how she responds. I’ll keep you posted.

In other news, treats made with Cocoa Krispies (or Pebbles, whatever) = tasty.

  1. You don't know me, but my sister-in-law is Kristi Done (my husband is Josh Larsen)and she told me about your blog. I have celiac as well and I know how hard it can be to find food that tastes good and aren't super expensive. There is a website http://www.eatingglutenfree.com that has helped me a lot. They have lots of information about restaurants and places where you can buy gluten free items. They also have a gluten-free cookbook that I really like. Their whole goal is to make gluten-free food that tastes normal. I have loved it and their flour mix is a lot easier and less expensive than buying all the different flours individually and mixing it. Something else that has made my life easier is that Rice Chex has 6 varieties that are gluten free and they have started coming out with gf cake mixes. You can get a coupon for a free box by calling the general mills number and talking to a customer service rep! Good Luck, I will be reading your blog occassionally but if you have any questions or want my opinion you can email me at cheliset@gmail.com

  2. Chelise,

Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions. I'll definitely be checking out their website. I'm also very, very happy about the Chex and the Betty Crocker cake mixes. It's always comforting for me to know there are lots of people out there with Celiac, not just me.

    Small world, isn't it?
